A Society Circus

by Siobhan Gandy

Clear selection

A Society Circus is the story of a Congolese pygmy named Ota Benga who was sold into slavery and brought to the United States during the 1904 World’s Fair. The piece takes place in a performance environment composed of dioramas, green screens, live video feeds, and a score featuring inaudible yet tactile vibrations of the elephants of the Congo Basin.
