IM Sketchbook Series: Free Pinocchio Readings for Kids

In late Summer 2010, Immediate Medium will begin work on The Assassins Chase Pinocchio, a piece of avant-garde theater for children inspired by Carlo Collodi’s 1883 coming-of-age novel The Adventures of Pinocchio. As part of our initial period of research we will be holding a FREE four-week storytelling workshop series for children ages 5 through 8. Each week we will tell a section of the story aloud and invite children to participate in a variety of activities to help us distill the story and reinterpret its themes and imagery from the very avant-garde point of view of the child mind.

To register your child, please RSVP to Max Dana at max [at] immediatemedium [dot] org. Space at the workshops is extremely limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, so please contact us as soon as possible to guarantee a spot.

Attendance at every workshop is not mandatory but highly recommended as we are interested in exploring how children experience the story as a whole. If your child is unable to attend, please write to us and we will send you an audio recording of the story and schedule a one-on-one follow-up interview with your child.

IM’s Sketchbook Series features work at its earliest stages of development. Sketchbook projects are meant to be first passes, “half-baked” beginnings of a larger exploration that will later culminate in a full production. These showings enable us to involve our audience in every step of the creative process, from the earliest “sketch” of a new work to its full realization.

Thanks to all who came out and got their holiday juices flowing with us last Saturday at our 1st Annual Holiday Party and Silent Auction at the Tank. The spirited bidding (and spirited drinking) by everyone who attended made the event a huge success, and we far exceeded our fundraising goal for the evening. If you weren’t able to make it, be sure to check out some of the pictures below so you know what to wear to next year’s auction…where we will be waiting for you with a year’s supply of cupcakes, four bottles of premium whiskey, a lasagna-making lesson and a yoga session for your baby.
